As per Australia's health laws, you are personally liable for all your healthcare costs while you are in Australia. However you can limit your financial liability by taking on Medical insurance. You must have adequate health insurance for the whole of your stay to be granted Subclass 485 visa. Your cover should cover you for medically necessary treatment, including ambulance cover.
Some countries have a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Australia such as Belgium, Finland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Slovenia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is acceptable health insurance if you are still on a student visa when you submit or send your application for a subclass 485 visa. However, OSHC will not be acceptable evidence of adequate health cover if you no longer hold a student visa. If you are applying for this visa while you are covered by OSHC, you will need to have adequate health cover either immediately after your OSHC ends or before Department of Home Affairs make a decision, whichever comes first.
If Department of Home Affairs decides on your application before your Over Students Health Cover ends, then you will be contacted to ask you to obtain a non-OSHC cover before a decision is made on your visa application.
